What to expect when taking Picosalax

Picosalax will cause you to have watery diarrhoea. You should expect frequent, loose bowel movements at any time after taking a dose. Please ensure that you have access to a toilet at all times following each dose, until the effects wear off.  The whole bowel cleansing process can take many hours. Everyone’s response time is different so don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t happen right away. Be patient, it will happen! If you have any questions always ask your Doctor/Nurse. 

Taking Picosalax to clean your bowel

You will have two sachets of Picosalax to take. As well as your Picosalax it is important you drink lots of clear fluids. These should be a combination of fluids, not just water alone. Below are the types of clear fluids you can and can't drink.

YES, you can drink.....

CLEAR, GREEN OR YELLOW - Water, CLEAR green or yellow jelly, CLEAR juice, CLEAR coconut water. NO PULP.

DAIRY FREE hot drinks and clear soups - black tea/coffee, green tea, peppermint tea.

CLEAR soft drinks - CLEAR sports drinks - CLEAR electrolyte solution

NO - do not have...

Cloudy or pulpy fruit juice.

Any milk, soy or dairy products.

Anything red or purple.

Any alcohol.

Any liquids you cannot see through.

End result

Your Doctor/Nurse will have discussed what your bowel motions should look like after taking Picosalax. For example, clear yellow urine, with no solid bits. Check out the pictures below as a guide.
